Winter Wonderland

Borgarfjörður Eystri is a hiking, biking, nature paradise in the summer, and dawns a different coat in the winter months. The unique mountainscapes are a sight to see when dusted with powdered snow, and the hiking trails turn into wonderful back-country trails for downhill skiing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing- making the views accessible for a variety of adventure levels. You don’t have to wander far to find beginner spots for cross country skiing, near Alfaborg and by the airport are some local favorites as the snow accumulates in the spring. Or maybe head a little further into the fjord for even more breathtaking views. You can hire a guide here in town or explore on your own, just keep snow and weather conditions in mind! 

There are no lifts in town but we would argue that half the fun is hiking up to take in the view before shredding your way down! Skins and avalanche gear are a must, and the views are totally worth it, and there’s no better way to end a good winter sport adventure than with a hot tub, a cold beer and a meal straight from the fjord.
